The 89 Initiative is a pan-European think-do tank. Our aim is to reinvigorate the European project through new ideas and radical start-up solutions to its biggest problems. As such we aim to act as the beacon for the 89ers – a new generation of Europeans for a better Europe.
The 89 Initiative has its roots in the rallying cry of Professor Timothy Garton-Ash, who called on Millennials to start taking on the mantle of European leadership.
Therefore, students at the LSE established the Initiative with the objective of mobilising young Europeans in the revitalisation of the European project. In order to achieve this primary goal, the Initiative started to draft policy proposals, build intergenerational connections, and foster a network of committed young Europeans to debate and share ideas.
The 89 Initiative has solidified its status as an affiliated organisation of the LSE’s European Institute and established five active Regional Chapters across the continent which act as its policy and project hubs. In 2019, it has completed its business expansion into a think-do tank. The organisation now undertakes a broader approach comprising three main branches of activities: events cycles, research projects and start-ups solutions.
