About

Dr. Katerina Glyniadaki is a recent PhD graduate from the European Institute, London School of Economics, and a current employee at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Directorate for Justice, Home Affairs, Migration and Schengen).

Katerina’s PhD thesis examined the so-called European migration crisis of 2015-2017 in Athens and Berlin. More specifically, it looked at how those actors at the front lines of migration management make decisions under conditions of high uncertainty. Combining different disciplinary approaches (public administration, sociology, psychology), it highlighted the role of individual identities in the discretionary behaviour of front-line actors, which ultimately shapes policy outcomes.

During 2020-2021, Katerina was a Teaching Fellow for the Executive Master of Public Policy and the Executive Master of Public Administration (LSE School of Public Policy). In the previous year, 2019-2020, she was a Teaching Fellow for the MSc International Migration and Public Policy programme (European Institute, LSE). In the past, she has also taught undergraduate courses in public policy and sociology.

Since 2020, Katerina has also been a Research Director at the 89 Initiative and the Migration Research Programme. Together with Dr. Joseph Downing, they are conducting a comparative research project, leading an international team of researcher officers.

Katerina holds a PhD in European Studies (LSE), an MA in Sociology (University of California, Riverside), an MPhil in Psychology (University of Cambridge) and a BA in Communications (University of California, Riverside).
